Frequently Asked Questions

What is your first name?
My first name is Breckan. I am fortunate to have a unique first name to use as a brand, instead of a last name that may change.
What are your rates?
Our rates vary depending on the case and scope of services. We charge a flat $150 consult fee (except personal injury consultations - which are complimentary). We typically charge at least a $5000.00 advanced fee deposit with an hourly fee between $275 and $350 per hour for attorney work in non-limited scope cases. We charge a flat fee for some of our services, such as estate planning, which typically ranges from $650 to $5000.00. For personal injury cases, we charge a “contingency fee” (a percentage of the gross recovery) of 1/3 pre-litigation or 40% if we have to file a lawsuit to recover.
Do you take payments?
Not usually, and never for clients who have not established with us already. On a very limited basis, we will allow existing clients to set up an automatic payment plan that must be 1/4 of the amount estimated for that phase of litigation. The client must get any past due balance caught up, and then provide payment information for an automatic withdrawal each month. For example, if we are about to prepare for trial, the client owes $1,500.00, and we estimate an additional $5,000.00 in fees to complete the case through trial, then (after the client has paid the past $1,500.00 owed) we may allow that client to set up automatic monthly payments of $1,250.00 which will go into our trust account to be billed against.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash, check, cashier’s check/money order, and all major credit/debit cards. You may pay your bill online via our secure client portal, or by bringing payment to our office.
When are you available to meet?
We provide flexible scheduling to accommodate working families, which includes evening and weekend appointments when necessary. If we are not at the office (or the door is locked) please send an email to breckan@breckanlaw.com for prompt response.
Do you practice in any other areas of law than those listed on your website?
Yes. I frequently screen other types of cases, and either accept the case or find referral counsel who may better suit the needs of the case.
Do you give free consultations?
Generally, no. All consultations are a flat $150. The only exception are personal injury cases, as it is industry standard. Free consults frequently become uncomfortable sessions where the attorney is trying to sell their services. Instead, we provide value from start to finish - beginning with your consultation. We request some preliminary information, and actually prepare for your consultation. We have never had a client displeased after a consult because they know they have received excellent value for the fee charged.
